Korean Weekly Season 2, Week 4 preview

The Korean Weekly is back and no, it's not Monday, but the folks over at ESV TV have confirmed that Korean Weekly season 2 week 4 begins tonight. The Korean Weekly features some of Korea's top professional StarCraft 2 players, pitting rising stars against seasoned veterans both foreigner and Korean alike in a single-elimination tournament.

The Young Guns

Pet - A Zerg player for the Korean squad ZeNEX, Pet's tournament experience is very limited. The only notable tournament he has ever participated in was the GSL October Preliminaries where he was defeated by PartinG in the Ro16. Pet has also been spotted playing for ZeNEX during the IGN Pro League Team Arena Challenge 2 qualifiers. In his first Korean Weekly, Pet will take on Startale.Tiger to determine who will face Invictus Gaming's Xious in the next round.

JookTo - Hailing from the formidable Old Generations, the Zerg player JookTo brings a wealth of experience to the Korean Weekly. JookTo competed in the first five GSL tournaments, and made it to the Ro16 in the GSL Super Tournament. Despite his recent decline into Code B, JookTo's skills are not to be scoffed at. JookTo's first opponent will be the winner of the oGs.Luvsic/eSahara.Deathangel preliminary match.

Life - A very talented and young player, ZeNEX.Life's abilities have brought him to the cusp of fame within the Starcraft 2 competitive scene. A former winner of the Korean Weekly, Life has participated in the GSL Code A tournament, GSTL, KSL, and most recently performed an all-kill over Team ReIGN in the IPL Team Arena Challenge 2. Life's first opponent will be the French Terran cArn.

Sparta - Another member of ZeNEX, Sparta has not yet enjoyed as much success as his teammate Life. Attempting to qualify for the GSL on two seperate occasions as well as participating in the Korean Weekly three times, Sparta has no tournament wins to his name. His skills will nonetheless be on display this week though as he faces the Swedish Zerg Cytoplasm in a preliminary match to determine who will meet Chinese player Comm in the next round.

cArn - When French player cArn opted not to attempt to qualify for the GSL he was immediately released from his team, eSahara. Now teamless, cArn will be facing Code A and Code S veterans alike in this Korean Weekly, providing an opportunity to prove himself against some of the world's best. In his first match he will face ZeNEX.Life, the Code A Zerg, and if cArn can take a second win against the winner of TSL.Dream/x6.Major vs TSL.Symbol in his next match, his decision to hold off on trying out for the GSL for more training may prove to be a wise one.

The Big Shots

SaSe - Last week was huge for SaSe. Despite not winning the tournament, he accomplished something no other foreigner has been able to do since September 2011: place in a Korean Weekly. SaSe doesn't seem to be letting his loss to TAiLS hold him back though, immediately returning to action in this week's tournament. In his first match, the Swedish Protoss will be facing the winner of the ZeNEX.Avenge/Liquid'Zenio preliminary match.

XTREME - A regular participant in the Korean Weekly, ZeNEX.TREME has evolved from a "Young Gun" to achieve the status of "Big Shot." This title isn't purely based on his consistent performances in the Korean Weekly, KSL or any other tournament, but rather upon the true example of his ability as demonstrated in the GSTL where ZeNEX took on oGsTL. Heading into a match that many felt ZeNEX couldn't win, XTREME proved the critics wrong and was able to bring ZeNEX from behind and force an "Ace Match" by defeating notable oGs players TheSTC, NaDa and Fin. XTREME's strength seems to be growing quickly, and with his first match being against the winner of NsHS.Tassadar/eSahara.Naama, he's ready to prove that his performance in the GSTL was not a fluke.

VINES - Another player that has improved from "Young Gun" to "Big Shot" status, VINES' rise to fame is also the result of a strong GSTL performance. In the same match that saw XTREME playing at his best, VINES was the one who started the day off by defeating ZeNEX's Line and Jjun. Although his individual success has been limited, VINES' ability to perform in team events cannot be overlooked. The oGs Protoss will face TSL.Revival in a preliminary match to determine who will face ZeNEX.Cutter in the next round.

HyuN - Returning to the Korean Weekly once again, former Brood War pro Hyun had a brief run in the GSL and appears to be ready for more. Falling to Korean Weekly "King" TaeJa, Hyun returned to Code B after only one game in Code A. HyuN has made it clear that he wishes to compete in a foreign tournament, and a strong showing in the Korean Weekly may earn him an invite to the Korean Weekly Grand Prix where he would have the opportunity to earn a spot in the next ASUS ROG tournament. The first obstacle standing between HyuN and a foreign tournament bid, however, will be the winner of the Liquid'Jinro/iG.Xy match.

WinDy (formerly MajOr) - The talented Mexican Terran WinDy (a.k.a. MajOr, Princess, Terran and several other handles) will be making his first Korean Weekly appearance in this week's tournament. A veteran of the Battle.net Invitationals and participant in the Blizzcon 2011 tournament, the fact that the CheckSix Gaming player is currently training in Korea is a good sign not only for him as a player, but for his team, who might be able to use WinDy as means of communication with Korean squads. WinDy will be facing TSL.Dream in a preliminary match to determine TSL.Symbol's opponent in the following round.

The Final Word

Last week we saw SaSe advance further than any foreigner in Korean Weekly history, putting foreigner hopes for a repeat performance squarely on his shoulders. TaeJa will be absent for a second week as well, leaving the door open for anyone to take the crown. The action begins tonight at 6pm EST on ESVTV.com
