ESL has officially announced that all of the overdue prizes will be paid off by the end of February.
“We have worked hard to eradicate these issues over the last 18 months and are now working on the final, remaining backlog of overdue prizes.” It has been reported that the organization has paid out over $12,000,000 over the last 12 years but has been late on some payouts. The CEO, Ralf ’Griff’ Reichert, will be doing a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) regarding prize money later in the week.
Paul “ReDeYe” Chaloner, Head of Content & Media ESL added this in response to a Reddit post about Riot and ESL not paying out tournament winnings:
I want to take this opportunity to apologise to the original poster and to those of you who have had or have issues with prize money not being paid out quickly enough.
Since I joined ESL just over a month ago, we have been working internally on ensuring all of the prize money owed is paid and alongside this ensuring a more robust system is put in place to ensure it doesn’t happen again in the future.Co-incidentally we have been putting together a news item outlining our current position regards prize money owed and rather than putting this out next week as planned, we have brought this forward to this evening. I will post in here once it is live, but suffice to say it is good news for those owed money and will ensure that going forward these issues become a thing of the past.
Several of you have remarked that ESL needs to learn how to do business better and although I have little knowledge of how things used to work internally I can assure you that the right business approach and equally importantly a sustainable model for the future is firmly in place now.
We’ve also arranged for Ralf Reichert, CEO of Turtle Entertainment (ESL) to do an AMA in the next couple of days to personally answer any questions. Again, I’ll make sure this is posted in good time for you to add your questions. If I can help anyone in the meantime, please let me know in the comments below and I’ll do my best to put you in touch with the right people/person at ESL.
