Today German Zerg player Jonathan “DarKFoRcE” Belke announced his retirement.
Citing lack of confidence and inability to find joy in the game since his 3rd place at the WCS German qualifiers and the EPS Summer competition, DarKForcE said he would no longer be playing competitively despite Team Alternate offering to renew his contract and salary.
From his official Facebook account:
Why did I decide to retire? There is two big factors. First of all, after EPS Summer last year and WCS Europe Finals my confidence in my play was pretty rock bottom and i never really managed tochange that all too much, and confidence is super important to winning.
Second, SC2 simply was not as much fun anymore which also decreased my motivation to practise. I tried to force myself to keep going many times, hoping once i perform better I will also have more fun again (winning alone is quite fun for me) but it just didnt come back.
DarKFoRcE stated that he would still follow the scene, post on forums, and interact with the community, but would focus on playing StarCraft simply for enjoyments sake.
