Intel Extreme Masters: Day 1 (2/28/11)

Febuary 28th 2011, Monday, the day before IEM. I'm supposed to be in Hanover at 10:30 P.M. in order to pick Andrew Clark up at the main station, who is coming to Germany in order to do the IEM coverage along with me.

6:00 P.M., I'm at my dads in order to pick a car up that actually won't break down during the "2-1/2-hour-drive" from here to Hanover. Due to the large amount of time I still have, we decide to just have some coffee and talk.

7:00 P.M., I check whether my 8 GB USB stick works in the car radio. Negative.

7:30 P.M., I'm done copying the music to my dads 4 GB stick and notice, that I wanted to be gone an hour ago.

8:00 P.M., before hitting the freeway I decide to go into the wrong direction.

8:30 P.M., after driving about 40 kilometers into the wrong direction, I manage to be back at the place that I hit the freeway at, I notice that I now have to manage the "2-1/2-hour-drive" in 2 hours.

9:30 P.M., there's a 15 kilometer long building site on the freeway, forcing me to drive at 60 kph.

10:27 P.M., I drive past the main station eventhough I am supposed to pick up Andrew in 3 minutes.

10:33 P.M., I manage to find a spot in the parking lot and get out into the main station.

10:40 P.M., after not finding Andrew anywhere and noticing I don't have his phone number, I decide to check all of the entrances and end up walking back and forth for another 10 minutes.

10:50 P.M., I find Andrew, smoking a "fag" outside, after not knowing what he looks like. He tells me his phone died and he had missed a train, after throwing 20€ into the garbage bin instead of the wrapped paper he planned on throwing in there, which he noticed about an hour too late.

10:53 P.M., I just spent 2 minutes figuring out how to get out into the parking lot after paying 2€ for 18 minutes of parking.

10:58 P.M., we're both hungry after not having eaten much anything for hours and plan to hit the Subways next to the main station. In fact, they decided to close 5 minutes earlier than usually and we happen not to get any food anywhere, because everything else is also closed already.

11:20 P.M., we arrive at the hostel and agree that the place is "very nice indeed". We decide to go to bed seeing how the day was very exhausting, anticipating breakfast.

12:30 A.M., I think to myself: "Falling asleep isn't quite as easy as you would imagine, when you have to sleep in a room that feels not so much warmer than outsides -5C."

1:00 A.M., I am asleep.

3:00 A.M., I wake up, noticing Andrew get back into the room, telling me: "I couldn't sleep, so I got wasted", might have just been a dream though.

7:00 A.M., the alarm goes. Day 2 begins.
